Getting Started Blogging For Business

Blogging for business is all about building up trust with your potential clients and positioning yourself as an authority.

Blogging for business is all about building up trust with your potential clients and positioning yourself as an authority. It takes a lot of dedication and  having to create fresh and engaging content for your blog regularly can be difficult.

Writing Business Blogs

In order to capture the audience and turn readers into customers, you need to give a fresh perspective.

Write your blogs for the readers, that is very important. Approach every topic you write about from the perspective of your audience. Start with what are the questions your customer typically asks and take it from there. Use your experience with customers and make it useful, easy to understand and free from technical jargon. The readers are reading your content because they think that it will benefit them and offer valuable information, so you need to talk in language that they are going to understand.

Demonstrate your knowledge

The #1 reason for getting started blogging for business is to build your authority and be seen as an expert in your industry. This is your opportunity to show your depth of knowledge so share it freely.  Readers like to be able to put new  knowledge to use quickly, so offer advice based on real-world experience. Make it something that can be put into action. Every one that reads your blog should come away having learnt something.  If you have read any of our previous blogs you already know that our business blog constantly shares what we do at ByteSizeMe on a daily basis.

Choose your topic to Blog about

If there is a topic that you are not an expert in, then find someone who is and learn from them. You could invite them to be a guest blogger and share their knowledge with your readers. It will offer fresh content to your site and they may then recommend your products or services to others.  Guest blogging is often suggested as a great way to generate backlinks to your website and it is.  In our view you should not have to pay to be a guest blogger but there is that option. Interviewing an expert or having a guest blogger should be done on a ‘quid pro quo’ basis you both benefit. You get the content and they get a valuable link.

How to use Images

As you can see, for our business blogs we do not use images as much as we would like.  However we have our own set format and we keep our blogs short. We do always have a featured image on the top and this will help with the SEO for sure.  What we will be doing soon is adding video to the content and maybe separate audio.  The aim is to make the content as consumable as possible. Try using images to break up long pieces of text to keep the reader interested. Stay away from stock images if possible and add a graph every now and then if appropriate. This will help readers that are more visual absorb your ideas.

Lead with value

People don’t read blogs so they can hear a sales pitch. You are trying to establish yourself and your business as trustworthy and credible and as an expert in your field so use your blog to educate readers. If you can build this relationship then, when the time comes that they need what you are selling, your business with be at the front of their mind. We can’t stress this enough, certainly have internal links and where appropriate external but always leave the sales pitch to the end. You can see we practice what we preach.  There are links to other blogs and relevant pages but no heavy sales pitch.  We want to educate or inspire small and micro-businesses to grow.  We know we can help with our expertise and demonstrate it in our business blogs.

What’s stopping you from blogging for your business?  You have the expertise but if you don’t have time, or don’t feel confident to write it yourself there are always people that can do that for you.
