Firstly, What is On-Page SEO?

On-page SEO refers to the optimization of individual web pages in order to rank higher in search engine results and earn more relevant traffic.

It involves optimizing elements on the page itself, including content creation, HTML code, and images. On-page SEO is a critical part of any successful SEO strategy, as it forms the foundation of the SEO Campaign that all the other elements work to improve the impact of.

Without proper on-page SEO all other SEO activity will be in effect pouring water into a bucket with holes in the bottom.

Elements to Perform On-Page SEO

  1. Keyword Research

Keyword research is the foundation of any successful on-page SEO strategy. By identifying the most relevant and high-volume keywords for your business, you can optimize your website content to attract targeted traffic. Our team uses a range of tools and techniques to conduct keyword research, including competitor analysis, market research, and data analysis.

  1. Title Tags and Meta Descriptions

Title tags and meta descriptions are HTML elements that provide information about your web page to search engines and users. Optimizing these elements can improve the relevance and click-through rate of your website in search engine results pages (SERPs). Our team ensures that title tags and meta descriptions are optimized for targeted keywords and accurately describe the content of the page.

  1. Content Optimization

Content is ‘everything’ in the world of SEO, and our team understands the importance of creating high-quality, relevant, and helpful content. We optimize on-page content to include targeted keywords and provide value to users, solve their problems, while ensuring that it is easy to read and digest.

  1. Image Optimization

Images can be a powerful part of on-page SEO, but they need to be properly optimized in order to be effective. Our team optimizes images for size, alt tags, and relevant filenames, which can improve page load times and provide additional opportunities for targeted traffic.

  1. Internal Linking

Internal linking refers to the practice of linking to other pages on your website. This can help users navigate your website and improve the relevance and authority of your pages in search engine results. Our team optimizes internal linking to ensure that it is logical, user-friendly, and properly structured.

On-Page SEO Tips From The Experts At ByteSizeMe

Include your keyword in the URL

Google ranks pages, so you want a page for every keyword you want to be found for and the first place you want to put your keyword is in the URL.  For example on this blog we have our URL is https://bytesizeme.co.uk/on-page-seo/ .

Put your keyword in the title tag

Your keyword should be at the front of your title tag.  In our case, we have the title ‘On page SEO – How to optimise your web pages.’  We did not use ‘How to optimise your web pages – On page SEO.’  In both examples our keyword is included but we always want it in the front.

Include your keyword in the first 150 words

We want the algorithm to know what our key word is really fast.  TO do this as well as having it on out URL and title tag, include your keyword within the first 150 words of your page. Our keyword starts 7 words in. Really, go and count.

Include your keyword in header titles

We use header titles to tell search engines about the important elements we want to be found for.  Always include your keyword in the title and make sure is H1.  Subsequent content can be titled H2, H3, etc and it’s a good idea to include your keyword somewhere in subsequent titles.

Optimise all of your images

This is so often overlooked.  Pictures paint a thousand words but search engines can see pictures so you need to tell them what it is.  We optimise a couple of elements here.  Use your keyword in the file name and in the alt text.  In the alt text also include a description of the image.  This is important for WCAG2.1 compliance and makes your page more accessible to people with disabilities.

Use synonyms and LSI keywords

When optimising your page include additional synonyms and LSI (latent sematic indexing) keywords.  The days of ‘keyword stuffing are long gone.  We need to make the search engines understand us. In this article we have already used some LSI when we talked about technical and off page SEO.  If I mention this article is about improving your search engine rankings, I’ve just added another.  I hope you get mu point.  There are free resources you can use to help you like Keysearch.

It is always good to link out to other sites that have a high domain ranking.  We want to show search engines that our content has been well researched and referenced so it build some trust. This is now essential since the E-E-A-T Update from Google.

We want to tell search engines that this is content that links to other relevant content on the subject and forms part of a wider picture. We have a webpage page that talks about what is SEO and I have used ‘anchor text’ that tells search engines exactly what that page is about.

Internal link building is a key part of out on page SEO strategy for the whole website.

What’s your on page SEO strategy?

If you have read this far I you now have a checklist to apply to your on page SEO.  We like to use some great online tools to help.  We build all our websites in WordPress and we use Yoast SEO to keep our optimisation on track (did you notice I linked out to a couple of high ranking websites).
