Why Microsoft 365 Works Well for Small Businesses
Most small business owners do not have time to figure out software. Microsoft 365 is easy to use once it is set up correctly, but getting it right takes some know-how.
That is where we come in. We look after everything so you can get on with running your business.
Here is what you get:
What We Do For You
We do not just hand you a login and leave you to work it out. We stay involved every step of the way.
We start by finding the right Microsoft 365 plan for your budget and team size. Then we set up your business email on your own domain and get Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive ready to use. If you are moving from another system, we handle that too, making sure your existing emails and files come across safely.
Before we hand anything over, we make sure your account is properly secured. We also take the time to show your team how to use everything, so nobody is left guessing. And if anything goes wrong after you are up and running, we are still on hand to help.

Why Invest in Managed Microsoft 365 Services
Microsoft 365 is not a one-time purchase that runs itself. Licences need managing, security settings need maintaining, new users need onboarding and the platform itself receives regular updates that can affect how things work. Without someone keeping an eye on it, small issues have a habit of becoming larger ones.
Working with an authorised Microsoft Partner also gives you access to support and pricing that is not always available when purchasing directly. We manage licences on behalf of our clients, which means a single point of contact for billing, technical queries and any issues that arise, rather than working through Microsoft's general support channels.
There is also a security argument that is increasingly hard to ignore. Cyber threats targeting business email and cloud storage are rising, and the default security settings in Microsoft 365 are not always sufficient on their own. Proper configuration of multi-factor authentication, conditional access and threat protection makes a significant difference to your exposure, and these are things we set up as a matter of course.
Intertec Data Solutions has been supporting businesses with their IT infrastructure for over twenty years. We are a trusted Microsoft Partner with the experience and the accreditation to get your Microsoft 365 environment working properly from day one and keep it that way.

Microsoft 365 Business Plans and Pricing
Microsoft updated their pricing for all Business licences from 1st July 2026. Below is a summary of the four plans available and what each one includes, so you can get a clear picture of which tier suits your business before we talk it through together.
Microsoft 365 Business Basic at £5.40 per user per month (annual subscription, ex VAT)
The entry-level plan covers the essentials for businesses that primarily need cloud-based tools rather than installed desktop software. You get business email through Exchange Online with a 50GB mailbox, shared calendars, Microsoft Teams for chat and video meetings, SharePoint for internal file sharing and OneDrive for cloud storage. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook are available as web and mobile apps. Standard security is included across all plans, covering spam and malware filtering, multi-factor authentication and custom access permissions.
Microsoft 365 Business Standard at £10.80 per user per month (annual subscription, ex VAT)
Business Standard adds fully installed desktop versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Access and Publisher for PC, and the core Office apps for Mac. It also unlocks webinar hosting for up to 300 attendees, with registration pages, email confirmations and attendance reporting. This is the most popular choice for businesses that want the full Office suite alongside Teams and cloud collaboration tools.
Microsoft 365 Business Premium at £16.90 per user per month (annual subscription, ex VAT)
Premium includes everything in Standard and adds the most comprehensive security and device management capabilities available in the Business tier. This covers Microsoft Defender for advanced email and endpoint threat protection, Intune for applying security policies across company and personal devices, Microsoft Entra ID for conditional access controls and Microsoft Purview for information rights management. Businesses that handle sensitive data, operate in regulated sectors or have remote and hybrid teams working across multiple devices will typically find Premium the most appropriate plan.
Microsoft 365 Apps for Business at £9.80 per user per month (annual subscription, ex VAT)
This plan is designed for businesses that need the full suite of installed Office desktop applications but do not require business email or Microsoft Teams. It includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Access and Publisher as desktop apps, plus OneDrive for cloud file storage and the standard security features. It is a cost-effective option for teams already using a separate email platform who simply want properly licensed, up-to-date Office software.
Not sure which plan is right for your business?
The right licence depends on how your team works, what devices they use, how important security compliance is to your sector and whether you need business email included or already have it covered elsewhere. We offer a free consultation to talk through your requirements and make sure you are on the plan that gives you the best value without paying for features you will not use. Blogging and Copywriting Frequently Asked Questions
There are four main Business plans available. Business Basic covers web and mobile apps, business email and Teams from £5.40 per user per month. Business Standard adds desktop applications and webinar hosting from £10.80. Business Premium includes advanced security tools such as Microsoft Defender and Intune from £16.90. Apps for Business provides desktop apps and OneDrive without the email and Teams features from £9.80. We will recommend the right plan for your specific needs during the initial consultation.
The web and mobile apps require an internet connection to function, but the desktop applications included in Business Standard, Business Premium and Apps for Business can be used offline. Changes made offline sync automatically when you reconnect, so your work is not lost if your connection drops.
We handle the full setup on your behalf, including domain verification, DNS record configuration and mailbox creation for each user. Your team will have professional email addresses on your own domain, hosted through Exchange Online with a 50GB mailbox per user.
Microsoft retains your data for a period of time after cancellation, during which it can be exported. We advise all clients to export and back up their data before any cancellation is processed to ensure nothing is lost. We can manage this process for you if required.
Microsoft 365 replaced Office 365 as the product name in 2020. The platform has been significantly expanded since then to include additional security, compliance and device management features beyond the original Office application suite. If you are still using an Office 365 licence, it is worth reviewing whether a current Microsoft 365 plan better suits your needs.
Teams meetings support up to 300 participants as standard across Business plans. Business Standard and Business Premium also include the ability to host webinars for up to 300 attendees with registration pages and attendance reporting included.
Yes, Microsoft 365 is fully backwards compatible with files created in older versions of Office. Documents, spreadsheets and presentations created in earlier versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint open and edit without any conversion required.
We provide ongoing technical support covering any issues that arise with your Microsoft 365 environment, as well as licence management, security monitoring and assistance with new user onboarding. You have a single point of contact for everything Microsoft 365 related rather than navigating Microsoft's general support system yourself.
SharePoint includes version history which allows you to restore previous versions of files, and OneDrive includes a recycle bin that retains deleted files for a period of time. However, these features are not a substitute for a proper backup strategy, and we always recommend configuring additional backup provision for business-critical data.
Business Standard includes standard security features such as multi-factor authentication, password policies and spam and malware filtering. Business Premium adds Microsoft Defender for advanced endpoint and email threat protection, Intune for device management, Microsoft Entra ID for conditional access and Microsoft Purview for information protection. For businesses handling sensitive data or operating in regulated sectors, Business Premium provides a significantly stronger security posture.
The most significant differences are endpoint security and device management. Business Premium includes tools that allow you to enforce security policies on both company and personal devices, remotely wipe business data from lost or stolen devices and protect against sophisticated email threats such as phishing embedded in attachments. Business Standard covers the baseline security requirements but does not include these advanced controls.
We conduct keyword research at the planning stage and build each piece around a clear search intent. Keywords are incorporated naturally throughout the content, alongside optimised meta titles, descriptions and internal links.
Yes, all three of the email-bearing Business plans, Basic, Standard and Premium, include Exchange Online. This provides hosted business email with a 50GB mailbox per user, shared calendars, meeting scheduling and full Outlook access on desktop, web and mobile.
For most small to medium-sized businesses, initial setup and email configuration can be completed within a few days. Migrations from another platform, particularly where there is a large volume of existing email data to transfer, can take a little longer. We agree a realistic timeline with you before the work begins and manage the process to minimise disruption to your team.
Yes, Microsoft 365 allows you to assign different licence types to different users within the same organisation. This is a cost-effective approach if some team members need the full desktop application suite while others only require web-based access and email. We advise on the most efficient licence mix during the consultation.
